Sarah and her team are all members of the Society of Podiatrists and Chiropodists and have many years of experience between them in treating foot problems.

Sarah Smout M.Ch.S – Podiatrist and Owner of the Family Footcare Centre

As a girl, I always worked in my Fathers pharmacy on Saturdays and school holidays in Tyldesley. At this time I knew I wanted to be with people and help people. As such, I started to look at all the medical and paramedical professions. I came across podiatry and thought ‘That’s the one for me!’ I can honestly say that since qualifying in 1989 I am still as passionate about my profession as I was back then!

I worked for the NHS for 9 years and during this time I had the opportunity to establish a private practice. With the help of a great team, we are now providing 6000 treatments annually at The Family Footcare Centre.

In my spare time, I like to travel, eat out, go to the theatre, but most of all spend time with all my family!

Neil Brown BSc(Hons) MChS – Podiatrist

I started my working life in the Royal Navy (not a natural progression into Podiatry!) spending 12 years in the senior service. During this time I sustained a nasty foot injury and was introduced to my first podiatry experience as a patient, from there it became an obsession because I couldn’t believe the difference a pair of insoles(orthotics) could make in relieving pain and foot function.

So being a local lad I applied to the nearest university to my hometown, became a podiatrist and haven’t looked back.

I love what I do and the difference it can make to the quality of people’s lives, treating all kinds of conditions with over 10 years NHS experience in addition to the Family Footcare Centre.

I’m also a big rugby fan and think I can cook!

Emma Ashtonhurst BSc (Hons) M.Ch.S – Podiatrist

I went to the University of Huddersfield to study English Literature, however, when I met other students who were studying podiatry it peaked my interest. So, after a few emails and interviews,  I switched courses and left with a First Class Degree in podiatry and the Deans Award for excellent academic achievement (not exactly the degree I thought I’d be leaving university with!).

Working as a podiatrist I enjoy that no two days are the same, hearing how grateful people are that their painful foot problem has been resolved and that they wished they’d have come sooner!

When I’m not at work I enjoy walking (wearing my orthotics of course) and spending time with friends.

Rob Alker BSc (Hons) M.Ch.S – Podiatrist

My interest in Podiatry began in the early 90’s after returning from what I thought was going to be my last ever skiing holiday! My feet had become very painful and, after purchasing several different pairs of ski boots,  I had almost given up hope of ever enjoying skiing again. I discovered that I needed Orthotics and, once fitted, have helped me ever since in all sporting and day to day use.

My interest in Podiatry led me to Salford University to complete a Degree in Podiatry. I enjoy all aspects of Podiatry and combine my work as a Podiatrist with Exercise Referral in the Wigan and Leigh area.
